What positives are you finding in the current situation? Are you even looking? It’s up to each of us to decide how we deal with what’s going on. You can choose to climb into your bunker and wallow in it or you can choose to see this as an opportunity.

Here are 5 tips to help you constructively plan for uncharted territory beyond this crisis…

1.  Check your own perspective on the crisis

Time to step forward in your leadership role(s). What crisis experience can you draw on and apply in this situation? Maybe crisis is a necessary part of the evolutionary creative process in order to birth something better!? Appreciation is a powerful way to put things in perspective – list all that you have to be grateful for. Send compassionate thoughts to those who have less resilience. Is there some way you can reach out and help them?

2. Self-care and keeping grounded and balanced

To be an effective leader you need to be in balance yourself, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. What do you need to do to stay grounded and in balance so that you have the resources to really step up and make a difference for others at this time? Tip! Look to nature; spend time alone in nature connecting with your senses and quietening your mind*.

What are your possible silver linings?

3. Look for the opportunities the change of routine brings

What changes have you had to make to your normal routine that you can use to your advantage? If you are working from home, instead of time travelling to work, can you spend quality reflection time in nature? If you are having to use more online tools, what opportunities are there for changing the way you interact with customers or collaborate with colleagues?

4. Involve colleagues, customers and advisors in identifying future opportunities

First focus on what else needs to be done or put in place in the short term. How will you make it through the next few weeks? Then turn your attention to the months after that when we hope the worst restrictions will be over.

Is there value in creating a mastermind group to brainstorm what you want to change to be in the best possible shape to face the brave new world on the other side of this crisis? Remember we are all in this together. Encourage others to take responsibility for helping to create the best version possible of their own future as well as your collective future!

5. Create a plan for thriving the other side of the crisis

Why not revisit the SWOT Analysis in your business plan? What needs to change in light of new threats? What and where are the new opportunities? What are the new risks surrounding business as usual if that even remains an option? Agree and document your plan. Stay open to new ideas and new developments.

Get used to change, it’s the new status quo! ; )
